This reminds me of those "wordless books" that we had at Vacation Bible School, where we learned that our hearts were "black with sin" until the savior's blood washed them white as snow".
We probably do so a lot. Now the truth is that the light=good dark=bad dichotomy is old: Older than our modern racism. However, given the history of racism, it is important to be sensitive to context. Black/white and dark/light now have meanings that they have not always had.
Though telling a First Nations person that "all things become white" is truly something else.

Good identification point Lainie. How often do we say things which are offensive to communities of people different than ourselves?
